Hot take: Don’t look for work that’s fun. Look for work that’s fulfilling.

Somewhere along the way, that became the expectation. That work should be fun and entertaining. The problem with that thinking is, the world doesn’t get better on its own. We have to work to make it better.

You want equal rights? Fair pay? Affordable health care? Clean air and water?

We need to work for it. It’s never going to magically happen on its own.

Personally, I have a lot of fun outside of work. I didn’t know work was supposed to be fun too.

I am looking for fulfillment and meaning. I want to leave the world better than I found it. Isn’t that the golden rule of the great outdoors?

“Leave No Trace”.

I spend a lot of time at work, and I want those hours to mean something. I want to invest my energy into work that makes a real, positive impact on the world around me.

Fun is easy. It’s not hard to make work fun. Any workplace can and should be welcoming, warm and fun. And yes that is absolutely a priority at Abode Outside. But it’s not our top priority.

Our top priority is this:
Use our knitwear expertise to create clothing that is less wasteful and helps connect people with nature in order to protect the planet and live longer, happier lives.

When people feel a close connection to something, they are more likely to take action to protect it.

That’s why Abode Outside exists.

We’ve made this commitment because businesses play a crucial role in shaping the world around us.

And we’ve seen what happens when that role is taken lightly. When companies cut corners and dump chemicals and pollutants into the places we love. Our health suffers. Our environment suffers. And the offenders get a slap on the wrist.

The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. We have to come to terms with that. At this point, its irresponsible to start a clothing brand without a commitment to holistic sustainability. There are more than enough clothing brands, there are not enough clothing brands dedicated to comprehensive sustainability.

Fun is great. That’s easy. We got that down. But fulfillment is even better.

And fulfillment comes from doing hard things, not easy ones.

If we want the world to change, we have to show up and do the work.

And I know our team at Abode Outside will have fun doing it.
